Recipients were York County Shelter Programs, Caring Unlimited and the Church Community Outreach Program.

THANKSGIVING COMES EARLY TO THREE YORK COUNTY CHARITIES

Three local charities devoted to helping York County children and families with housing, food and fuel assistance are the happy recipients of $16,700 each, representing money raised at the Webhannet Charity Classic Golf tournament held September 17, 2010.

Michele Davis, tournament co-chair, presented individual checks for $16,700 to the York County Shelter Program (which provides food from its pantry, as well as temporary and extended housing relief for homeless families), Caring Unlimited (which provides safe space and legal advocacy to adults and children whose lives have been affected by domestic violence), and the Church Community Outreach Program (which provides emergency fuel and food assistance for families in Arundel, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport).

“We were more than happy to be able to make a difference in the lives of so many people, especially the children of York County, and we are also pleased that our community recognized the need and supported us in our endeavor,” Davis said.

Upon receiving the check for $16,700, Joan Sylvester of  the York County Shelter Program stated, “Primarily we will spend the money on our Thanksgiving food purchases.  We are planning on distributing Thanksgiving food boxes to at least 1600 low income households in York County.  This will probably account for $10,000 and the remainder will help offset our heating costs at family shelters in York County this coming winter.  We are very very grateful to those who made this gift possible.”
