Volunteers Needed
Shaker Hill Apple Festival
The Shaker Hill Apple Festival will be taking place once again on the grounds of the Brothers of Christian Instruction on Shaker Hill Road in Alfred, on Saturday, September 24, and Sunday, September 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission and parking are free. The Shaker Hill Apple Festival combines the efforts of York County Shelter Programs, the Friends of the Alfred Shaker Museum, and Giles Family Farm.
The York County Shelter Programs has planned several events at the Apple Festival to benefit the over 300 homeless children they help each year. They are offering a juried Artist and Craft Show, a silent auction and book sale in the Shaker Barn, a yard sale, horse-drawn wagon rides, children’s activities, baked goods from the Bakery at Notre Dame, antique car rides, a pig raffle, an environmental education booth, a farm booth, and musical entertainment. World-renowned musician and composer, Tim Janis, will be performing on Sept. 24. Refreshments will include hamburgers, hot dogs, apple crisp and ice cream, homemade french fries, coffee, popcorn, fried dough, and healthy options such as salads and wraps.
Volunteers are needed to help the Shelter prepare for and work at the Festival. In late August, volunteers will be needed to sort and price items for the yard sale and to help organize the hundreds of books that have been donated for the book sale.
A service organization, club, church committee, or group of individuals
is especially needed to help prepare some of the healthy option lunches that will be available such as wraps and salads.
Volunteers are needed the days of the event to monitor the various booths and refreshment stands.
Area crafters and artists are encouraged to apply for the juried art and craft fair.
