Surprise Celebration - April 12

Dick and Carol Ogden of Shapleigh, Maine, have volunteered for several years at the York County Shelter Programs. Each week for the past two years they have traveled to Good Shepherd Food Bank in Auburn to acquire food for the York County Shelter Programs’ Food Pantry.  They have collected over 90,000 pounds of food.  They have also organized the Senior Food Distribution Program as well as participated in many fundraisers including golf tournaments and have also been responsible for many donations for the Shelter.

Residents, staff, and volunteers of the York County Shelter Programs, gathered for a surprise recognition event for the Ogdens and all the other volunteers associated with the Food Pantry

in the beautiful old Shaker Barn on the property of the Brothers of  Christian Instruction on

April 12, 2011.  Dave Morrison and John and Mandy Mullins have also made many trips to

Good Shepherd Food Bank.

When the Ogdens walked into the old Shaker Barn, the members of the Massabesic High School Concert Band greeted them with their music.  Three representatives from the Good Shepherd Food Bank traveled from Auburn to participate in the celebration.

York County Shelter Programs scheduled this event to recognize the Ogdens, and all the volunteers and residents who help with their Food Pantry program.  They also wished to acknowledge the generosity of Good Shepherd Food Bank.  On very short notice, Low’s

Variety in Alfred generously donated pizza for the students in the Massabesic High School

Concert Band.

A special thank you is extended to Floyd and Maureen and John for assistance with the

set up and also Bob and Mike for acquiring the tables and chairs.
