Individuals are invited to share their thoughts
and memories about the work of
York County Shelter Programs over
the past thirty years for an upcoming book on
the history of the Shelter.
The book will be an informal account
tracing the Shelter from its primitive beginnings
in 1979 in the old brick jail to its current
location on Shaker Hill. This publication
will document the Shelter's transformation
over the years as it has blossomed and
evolved into a major presence in assisting
those in need throughout York County.
There will be many photos and contributions
in the book from people from all backgrounds - law
enforcement, past and present employees,
individuals from local, state, and national agencies,
former residents, people in public service, Board
members, volunteers, and various supporters
over the years.
This collaborative history of the
first thirty years of the York County
Shelter Programs, where everyone
is invited to share their thoughts, is in line
with the mission of the Shelter
to foster projects that are
all-inclusive and community-based.
Anyone who has Shelter-related
memories or stories that they would like
to share or photos or memorabilia that they are
willing to lend for this publication is
strongly encouraged to do so.
