Items Needed at Christmas
Items Needed at Christmas
Although the specific wish lists for the various families have not yet been
submitted, the York County Shelter Programs knows from over thirty years
of distributing Christmas gifts to residents that there are two gift areas that
always are in special need.
Sometimes the gifts that are most difficult to acquire are gifts for the older children of the various families. The teens love certificates to various stores like Walmart or Target, fast food places, Dunkin Donuts, the movies, etc. gift cards, clothing items, DVDs, hair products, nail polish, body washes, backpacks, sleep wear, gloves, socks-all are nice ideas. People often remember the young children with stuffed animals, various toys, children's books, etc. Often the pre-teens and teens are
unintentionally forgotten.
The other area we struggle with is gifts for large adults, specifically, we have some folks yearly who wear triple X-5X in sizes sometimes-the easiest would be sweat shirts, sweat pants in those sizes-large adults would, of course, include those who are in families as well.
If anyone wishes to “adopt” a Shelter family for Christmas and purchase some of their holiday gifts, please contact Patty Theriault at 324-1137.
The Shelter is in need of an artificial Christmas tree for one of its houses.
The donation of socks, gloves, hats, and underwear for men and women would
be appreciated for Christmas.
The York County Shelter Programs works exceptionally hard to try to brighten the holidays for the homeless individuals and families that are staying in the Shelter and in the homes that the Shelter owns and manages. New pillows, new towels, new sweatshirts and new
sweatpants (especially extra large sizes) always come in handy.
A holiday party is being planned for all the residents and the donation of chips, dips, popcorn, soda, veggie and fruit platters, and candy, etc. would make the party very special.
Christmas presents for the male residents of the Ray Angers
Community Farm would be greatly appreciated. Items such as new gloves,
sweatpants, sweatshirts, hats, socks, underwear, gift certificates to
department stores make great gifts. Please contact Liz or Mary Beth
at 793-4592 if you can help out.
