York County Shelter Programs Is Desperate For Help Acquiring Turkeys
Last year, the York County Shelter Programs’ Food Pantry gave out 1418 free Thanksgiving food boxes. Once again there is a great need for food to share with folks who are having difficulty feeding their families during these challenging economic times. Some people who were donors a few years ago now seek help from the Shelter's Food Pantry.
The Shelter anticipates as many as 1500 families requesting free turkey food boxes this Thanksgiving. It is difficult to find a source for that many turkeys as the supply of turkeys at a sale price is limited. The donation of turkeys is desperately needed.
Monetary donations are also needed so that the Shelter can purchase items at a bulk rate for the food boxes. Each food box contains two cans of vegetables, one can of fruit, one box of stuffing, one cranberry sauce, a gravy, a dessert, a
soup or canned meal, rice or pasta and sauce, fresh potatoes,
winter squash, bread or rolls, and a turkey.
Please call Sandy in the Shelter's Food Services Department at 324-8811 or Joan at 324-1137, ext. 105, if you have any questions. The donation of turkeys and food for the holiday boxes is critically needed. Please let the Shelter know if you can help locate a source of a quantity of turkeys that are available at a sale price. To send a donation towards the purchase of the Thanksgiving boxes, please mail your check to:
