Garden Fundraiser for the Shelter

An exciting new feature was added to the

Alfred Festival weekend.  On Sunday, July 19, 2009,

from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., area residents had the opportunity to visit Jim Boldebook's incredible gardens at 13 Federal Street in Alfred.  He generously agreed to open the gardens to the public as a fundraiser for the feeding programs at the York County Shelter Programs.

Visitors had the opportunity to roam about the large expanse of lovely grounds and gorgeous gardens

surrounding two homes, a guest house and a pavilion that border Shaker Pond.  Joanna Sylvester and her crew from Memory Gardens were in attendance to share information and answer garden questions.

There was a walking path that offered an alternative view of the house and gardens.  As you were

strolling through the pine forest you might have had an opportunity to see a deer!

The Boldebook property is situated on the  scenic Shaker Pond in Alfred.  It is home to a variety of  spectacular gardens and the cemetery of some of the early settlers of Alfred such as the family of Deacon Moses Stevens.
