At a time when I had no place to go, you gave me a safe place to stay. At a time when I had no hope, you gave me hope. When I had no care, you all were there. Can’t say much more than a very sincere thank you.
Thank you once again for a chance to start over.
Please do me one favor. Do for someone else what you did for me. It is the greatest gift that I have ever received. All of you do good work. I’m sure it is so very stressful at times, but pouring your life into another’s because of their value as a human being will give you a great reward knowing that you made a difference. 
Keep saving those lost souls.
You and the staff and the people at the bakery are treating me with dignity, respect, and like a human being.
I would not have had the opportunity without the Shelter.  It would have been impossible to go to work at two jobs while living in my car.  So, I am very grateful that there was a safe place for me to go (The Shelter) and to start me
back on the road to financial recovery and ultimately independence again.
Thank you all so very much for giving me, with a little push here and there, the opportunity to turn my world around.  Thank you for believing in me and having faith in me at the times that I felt nothing but hopelessness and
despair.  You all have been nothing but wonderful to me and, for that, I will be forever grateful.  I will never forget the opportunities and lessons that I learned here.
 
 
 
I would like to offer a few words of appreciation to the staff for all the support that they offered to me while I resided at the Shelter. It was a difficult decision to make to set aside my pride and ask for help. At the time of my arrival, I felt overwhelmed with stress and my self-esteem was suffering. Thanks to the staff at the Shelter, I was able to maintain my pride and my self-esteem rose each day. I would like to offer special thanks to John for helping me to keep my expectations real. I am very grateful and you people gave me the greatest gift - focus and dignity.

Alfred Shelter is the place to be if you need housing or want to get clean, sober.
You can find the help you need.
 
Many programs they have here you’ll be assigned a case manager who will give you many options ... who will help you and me.
 
Meetings, groups and the desire to change the things that brought you here, is
all they want to see.  The rules are easy to follow - about the biggest no-no is
drinking and drugging on Shaker Hill Road.
 
The staff here are really wonderful people.  They really care about us.  The things that helps a lot of people, see, is the fact they’ve been where you are and a lot are in recovery.
 
But as with any job they must follow the rules, so if you screw up they’ll call you on it and may give you boot.  If given another chance, you must prove to them that you can follow your care as well as the program.
 
But for some people the temptation is too great.  After not following their recovery they come back to try again...over and over.  Or even worse, another
soul is lost to drugs and alcohol...but they can’t help everyone who walks through the door.
 
I’m grateful to York County Shelter and the people who work here.  The Brothers, especially, for letting this place be where it lays.  It’s such a wonderful
place to find your higher power - there must be divine intervention here on
Shaker Hill Road.
 
 
 
It took me a while to get my life back on track, and it was you guys who helped lay down the foundation.  I am currently in my second year of college, on my way to a Master’s in social work.  I am still married, going on our fifth year!  The kids are doing great and are four and five.
Thank you so very much for helping me help myself!  You have always been here for me!
Shelter Bound We are homeless, but just like you we don’t choose to be. Unpredicted circumstances arise around us that maybe you can’t really see. We have shelter, food, doctor’s care, and counseling...and sometimes we have donated items that other people bring. Staff here are strict, as they really should be, teaching us a multitude of goals, helping us get homes, and getting us all to do our chores so that nobody will be bored. All the cooks in the bakery are really great, so nice to talk to and work for while making cookies and cakes...and then maybe washing dishes for two hours without taking a break. Whatever problems we may have, I’m so glad I’m here. It’s a place to call home. We always have someone to talk to whenever we have fears. God Bless the Shelter. It’s our refuge for a while. Sometimes we make friends, we laugh a lot and sometimes we just smile. God Bless the staff, who encourages us in everything we do. You’re very helpful, and I just want to thank you.
