Alfred Chapter of the Homeless Voices for Justice

The York County Shelter Programs has engaged homeless consumers in self-advocacy for over twenty years, and has recently joined with Preble Street Homeless Voices for Justice.  Preble Street has organized a consumer-led, grass-roots group that works for social change on behalf of people who struggle with homelessness and poverty.  The Preble Street Homeless Voices for Justice has formed chapters in Augusta, Brunswick, and Alfred/York County.  Their goal is to “build a coalition for homeless people throughout Maine, and to empower people whose first-hand perspective has often been absent in the development of policies and programs that impact their social and economic well-being.”
