Homelessness is a condition of extreme poverty and neglect and is available to almost
anybody.
What we do:
The York County Shelter Programs provides transitional/permanent housing at twenty-four sites throughout southern Maine. Just as important, we provide for case management, mental health services, vocational training, a food pantry, and two meal sites.
Our Clients:
Who are they? They are men, women, and children of all backgrounds. They come from
a variety of life circumstances including physical, mental, and learning disabled, substance abuse, single parents, families, victims of medical catastrophes, the unemployed, sexual, physical, and emotional abuse survivors, as well as individuals and
families that are unable to earn a livable wage.
How do we do it?
We are a not-for-profit organization that fully endorses client participation in a variety of
operational endeavors. This meaningful work is not only a source of revenue but provides
opportunities for learning new skills.
* Our food service vocational training program distributes meals to two meal sites,
the Shelter Residential facilities and the food pantry.
* “Mama Mia’s is a pasta and pizza public dinner held every Friday night from April
through October
*The Bakery at Notre Dame is open daily to the public selling breads, rolls, cookies,
turnovers, muffins, pies, and other goodies.
WE COULD NOT OPERATE WITHOUT THE GENEROUS CONTRIBUTIONS OF LOCAL CORPORATE PARTNERS WHOSE DONATIONS OF GOODS ARE INVALUABLE IN OUR QUEST TO END HOMELESSNESS.
Finally, without the countless hours of volunteer efforts from the Board of Directors to the
clerical staff, we couldn’t do it without you.
