Shelter Programs

Volunteers from the Rainbow Girls Sanford Assembly #7 organized a fund raising dinner for the York County Shelter Emergency Housing Fund at the Masonic Temple in Sanford.

The Sanford High School Peer Helper Group collected 4,126 pounds of food for the York County Shelter Programs.  They challenged Massabesic High School in a food collection drive!

Hartford Trucking donated a new exhaust system, all the labor, and the very expensive batteries needed to operate the little green bus.  Pictured in the photo from left:  Brion Hartford, Jocelyn Hartford, Chuck Philbrick, and health educator Steve Coutreau.

Arlene Carroll (on left) made a beautiful quilt in the “turning twenty” pattern and held a raffle at Goodall Hospital.  The proceeds were donated to York County Shelter Programs.  From left:  Arlene Carroll, Joan Sylvester and Connie Roux, the winner of the quilt.  Arlene also arranged for a very generous donation of furniture from Goodall Hospital to benefit York County Shelter Programs.

Nancy Page, Jon Allan, and Jon Allan II of Elmer’s Nostalgia have been supporters of the York County Shelter Programs for over fifteen years.  They have dedicated the first section of their autograph and memorabilia catalogue with items whose sales are earmarked for the benefit of York County Shelter Programs, Inc.

Tom and Mary Couming organize neighborhood food drives; write fund raising letters; encourage individuals to volunteer; and go out of their way to help to address many needs of the York County Shelter Programs.

Camille Weslch came up with the idea of the “Twice As Good Gift Program” when she donated money to the York County Shelter Programs as a gift for a friend at the holidays who had everything that she needed.

Madeline Braun of the Lyman Community Library arranges for the donation of books and videotapes.

Paul Poulin of Kezar Falls arranged for the large donation of furniture from a motel.

Evan Beals arranges for the donation of many turkeys.

Dave Levasseur from the Shaw’s Distribution Center has helped arrange for food donations.

Massabesic Middle School students participate in a Dance-A-Thon to benefit York County Shelter Programs.

diana tomasello waterman organizes concerts at the Line School and Shapleigh School and asks concert-goers to bring food items for the Food Pantry at the York County Shelter Programs.

Gloria McBride organizes a Gift Box Program that benefits many children at York County Shelter Programs.  They receive presents and a cake on a special occasion.   She is pictured here with Bill Gallant from Card & Gift at Mail It Unlimited at the Shopper’s Village in Kennebunk who donates the balloon bouquets for each of the special occasions.

Nicole Leclerc of Quebec City has spent her last two summer vacations assisting in various capacities at the York County Shelter Programs.  She has shared her graphic design skills and helped with the design of brochures and posters.

Lucille Hussey was the d.j. at a fundraising dance for the York County Shelter Programs.  She has also offered computer assistance on countless occasions.

Brian Cincotta organizes the library in the Dining Commons.

Sanford architect, David Joy,  has volunteered with architectural advice countless times.

Linda Aaskov made a beautiful quilted picture that was raffled off at her church.  She also organized food collection drives.

Faith Hatter volunteers to read to the children in the Family Shelter.

David Jagger, Wanda Parent, and Linda Bishop have been long-time supporters of the York County Shelter Programs.

Joe Long completed a playground project at one of the Shelter residences for his Eagle Scout project.

The children from Kids Inc. Preschool contribute toys and money from a bottle drive.

John Boutot,  Joan Sylvester and Butch Lizotte meet to discuss plans for the United  Bikers of Maine Toy Run that will benefit Caring Unlimited and the York County Shelter Programs.

Steve Cabana, Jim Lapierre, and Ann Lapierre from Town Square Realty present Joan Sylvester with a generous donation from their gas grill raffle.  As realtors they wished to see the proceeds from the raffle benefit those in need of homes.

Cindy Durney (on right) helped support the Food Services Program of the York County Shelter Programs by organizing a food collection drive at Waterboro Town Hall.  She also greatly assisted with the York County Shelter Program’s participation with the Waterboro Old Home Days by helping with the tent and booth space.

Newfield residents pictured above, Thelma Connell, (on left) and Marguerite Mazza (on right) conduct a food drive throughout town and at the Newfield Town Hall on Election Day encouraging residents to bring canned food items for donation to the York County Shelter Programs.

Arland Gifford is the Regional Sales Manager of Gifford’s Ice Cream.  The company is making a very generous commitment to support the work of York County Shelter Programs.

Rose Marie and Larry Ryan organize several food drives for the York County Shelter Programs’ Food Pantry with their fifth grade students at the Willard School in Sanford.

A special thank you is extended to Stan Smith of The Mac Smith who proved instrumental in sharing his expertise in helping to set up this web site.  Stan operates The Mac Smith at 134 Black Point Road in Scarborough, Maine.
